Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Andrei Nesterenko Commentary Regarding Act of Terrorism in the South of Sri Lanka
According to information received from Sri Lanka, on March 10 in the south of the country near Matara town a suicide bomber committed act of terrorism near a Mosque. As the result dozens of people who participated in the National Milad-un-Nabi festival were killed and injured. Among them were several ministers of the Government.
In Colombo it was officially announced that the terrorist had belonged to the separatist organization "Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam" (LTTE).
Moscow strongly condemns this barbaric crime and expresses its sincere condolences to the families of those killed as well as to all injured in this terrorist attack.
Russia confirms its consistent support of the struggle of the people and Government of Sri Lanka against terrorism and separatism and hopes that peace and stability on the island on the basis of political solution of the existing problems will be established soon.
