Russian Humanitarian Aid to Sri Lanka
In the spirit of traditional friendship with Sri Lankan people and being concerned by problems they face after heavy rains and floods, the Government of the Russian Federation has sent a special aircraft with humanitarian aid worth of appr. $ 400 000 to Colombo. The aircraft with 30 tons of humanitarian cargo has landed on March 11, 2011 in Bandaranaike International airport, where it was handed over to the Sri Lankan Side by H.E.Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Sri Lanka Mr. Vladimir P. Mikhaylov. Receiving the humanitarian aid Deputy Minister of Disaster Management Mr. Duleep Wijesekara and Secretary to the Ministry Mrs. S.M.M.Mohamed expressed sincere gratitude to the Russian Federation on behalf of the Government and people of Sri Lanka.
