Day of Russia celebration
On June 12, 2012 in the oldest and most prestigious hotel of Colombo "Galle Face" an official reception
was held by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Sri Lanka on the occasion of the national holiday – Day of Russia.
Among the numerous guests were Ministers and Secretaries of Ministries, including Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary of the
Ministry of Defense and Urban Development of Sri Lanka, MPs, senior officials of the Presidential Secretariat,
Government of Sri Lanka and various authorities, cultural, business and mass media personalities, Ambassadors and High
Commissioners accredited in Colombo.
Addressing the reception Russian Ambassador H.E. Mr. Vladimir P. Mikhaylov informed the guests about the main
principles of the foreign policy of the Russian Federation and its social and economic achievements, stressed the
successful development of the bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Chief Guest of the function Hon. D.E.W.Gunasekara, Minister of Human Resources of Sri Lanka, Vice-President of
the Sri Lanka – Russia Parliamentary Friendship Association, addressed the audience and noted the fruitful development
of the friendly relations that had become especially active in recent years.
In connection with the Day of Russia in a number of Sri Lankan newspapers special supplements were published with
the congratulatory messages from Hon. D.M.Jayarathne, Prime-Minister of Sri Lanka, Hon. Susil Premajayantha, Minister
of Petroleum Industries, President of the Sri Lanka – Russia Friendship Society, public and business personalities as
well as information materials prepared by the Russian Embassy.
At the same day the interview of H.E. Mr. Vladimir P. Mikhaylov was broadcasted by the state radio station of Sri
Lanka. H.E. Ambassador informed the listeners about the main principles of the foreign policy of Russia, its social and
economic achievements and dynamic development of the bilateral ties between Russia and Sri Lanka.
