Meeting between H.E. Mr. Vladimir P. Mikhaylov, Russian Ambassador, and head of the Sri-Lanka Russia educational project Dr. Neville Fernando

On June 13, 2012 a meeting between H.E. Mr. Vladimir P. Mikhaylov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Sri Lanka, and Dr. Neville Fernando, head of the Sri Lanka Russia educational project, well-known public figure and entrepreneur of the country, was held at the premises of the Russian Embassy.

Dr. Neville Fernando extended an invitation to the head of the Russian diplomatic mission to take part at the opening ceremony of the recently built and high tech equipped treatment and teaching complex named Dr. Neville Fernando Sri Lanka Russia Friendship Teaching Hospital as part of the Medical Faculty of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITN). Since 2009 in the city Malabe, suburb of Colombo, the first Sri Lanka Russia higher educational project Medical Faculty of the SAITN successfully carries out its activity. The solid partner of the Faculty from the Russian side is the Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy. Dr. Neville Fernando expressed his sincere gratitude to the Russian Embassy and the Russian Cultural Centre in Colombo for their support and assistance provided to the Institute during the years of its establishment.

During the meeting the issues of further participation of the Russian Embassy and the Russian Cultural Centre in Colombo at the SAITN activity were discussed including in providing necessary assistance to SAITN academics and students in studying Russian language, Russian history and culture as well as in organizing leisure activity for youths.

Director of the Russian Cultural Centre in Colombo Mr.Andrey M. Nazarkin and director-coordinator of the Medical Faculty of the SAITM, Russian medical institute graduate Dr.Renuke Samira Senarathna were also present at the meeting.
