RUSSIA PROVIDED HUMANITARIAN AID TO SRI LANKA
Colombo, March 6, 2013

On March 5, 2013 a special aircraft IL-76 of the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters with 30 tons of humanitarian aid cargo on board (appr. worth 300000 USD) landed in Colombo. The official ceremony of handing over the humanitarian cargo was held on the next day at the Bandaranaike International Airport with participation of HisExcellencyMr.Alexander Karchava, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Sri Lanka, and representatives of the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters. On behalf of the Government and the people of Sri Lanka Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister for Disaster Management, and Hon. Neomal Perera, Deputy Minister of External Affairs, expressed sincere gratitude to the Russian Federation and stressed that this gesture is yet another evidence of the traditional close friendship existing between the Governments and the peoples of Russia and Sri Lanka.
